Early life and Career

Aly Bandali attended the University of Alberta in Canada between 1987 and 2003 and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He started working at the Red Cross’s HR department after securing funding for a full-time position. After three years of service, Bandali began working at the Canadian Cancer Society in Calgary as a senior HR generalist and then was promoted to HR director, serving in that position for several years. In 2006, Bandali was appointed chief operating officer of the Canadian Cancer Society, a role in which he served for over a year before moving into the private sector.

Business

In 2007, Aly Bandali became an HR strategist and then president of enCompassing Visions, a company that provides integrated software solutions for job and talent evaluation. He worked there for nearly four years and then moved into the energy sector, when he was hired as an “industry outsider” at STEP Energy Services. He served there as HR director for two years, during which he was responsible for developing an HR department as well as a plan and vision that was unique to the industry. After leaving STEP, Bandali was once again tasked with building and implementing an HR system. He took on a contract role as interim vice president of HR at WSP in Canada, a leading professional-services consulting firm. Between 2016 and 2018, Bandali was a member of the HR division’s board of directors for the film “Up in the Air.” He also co-founded Professional Contractor Solutions, a professional and administrative services provider. In 2018, Bandali moved into the nonprofit sector, working full-time for Operation Eyesight Universal.

Some of the highlights of Bandali’s career are:

  •  In 2015, he was appointed chairperson of the Canadian Council of HR Associations, where he was responsible for successfully restructuring the organization.
  • He was named as one of the “2013 Class of Rising Stars for the Oil and Gas Sector” by Oilweek Magazine.
  • He received an award of distinction from the Human Resources Institute of Alberta in 2005.
  • He was awarded the Fellow Chartered Professional in HR by CPHR Alberta in 2016 in recognition of exceptional service.

Philanthropy and Sponsorship

Since early in his career, Aly Bandali has been involved with many philanthropic ventures. He was one of the members of the Canadian Cancer Society’s national HR team that was responsible for implementing fair and consistent policies, practices, and HR strategies. In later years, as national co-chair of the Canadian Cancer Society, Bandali helped develop and execute the Pan-Canadian People Plan and helped the organisation achieve fundamental milestones. In May 2018, Bandali was appointed president and CEO of Operation Eyesight Universal. In this role, he actively works towards eliminating avoidable blindness in countries across the globe. Operation Eyesight Universal is an international non-profit organisation based in Calgary, Canada. The organisation collaborates with local governments, community developers, and medical professionals to build essential resources that give people access to treatments that prevent blindness and restore sight.
