The Foundation's History
Cancer and Careers was launched in 2001 as a program of the charity arm of Cosmetic Executive Women, the CEW Foundation. The idea was conceived when the company’s board of directors made the staggering realization that five of the 40 board members had been diagnosed with cancer. Some of them had mentioned it at work and others kept their diagnoses quiet. As all of them continued to go to work during and after treatment, they experienced similar problems, like how they would break the news to their bosses and colleagues or how they would balance work and treatment. The organization was founded because work doesn’t stop, even when you are diagnosed with cancer.
